Members

The Coalition currently has four types of members. All four types will be eligible to become members of the proposed New Leaf Federal Credit Union when that entity becomes operational (Note: At present, the target date for the opening of the credit union is January 1, 2022). 

RETURNING CITZENS

These are individuals who have previously been incarcerated in federal or state prisons – or in county or municipal jails. As of December 31, 2013, there were at least 70 million Returning Citizens in the U.S. (Note: It is estimated that more than 2 million of those Returning Citizens reside in New York City). 

Returning Citizens can become members of New Leaf Coalition by going to the organization’s website at www.newleafcoalition.us, clicking on the “Join Now” button, and completing the informational form that pops up. There is no charge for membership for Returning Citizens.

AFFILIATES

These are public agencies and community organizations that provide assistance and/or services to Returning Citizens and their families. All of these entities will have a link to their websites on the Coalition’s website – and some of them will serve as co-sponsors for the workshops and training programs that are offered to Returning Citizens by the Coalition.

The Coalition and each of its affiliates enter into a “Memorandum-of-Understanding” that delineates the responsibilities of both parties (These agreements do not involve any financial commitment on the part of either party – and they can be canceled by either party at any time). ADVOCATES

These are individuals, companies, and professional organizations that support the mission of the Coalition – and that provide financial support and/or services to the Coalition on a voluntary basis. Advocates can become members of the Coalition by going to the organization’s website at www.NewLeafCoalition.us, clicking on the “Join Now” button, and completing the informational form for Advocates that pops up. Advocates are periodically solicited by the Coalition in conjunction with its fundraising efforts. 

SPONSORS

The Coalition offers two types of sponsor memberships to individuals or entities that make significant contributions to the organization: Prime Sponsors that make a one-time donation of $100,000 or more – and Sustaining Sponsors that make an annual contribution of $10,00 or more for at least five years. Both types of sponsors are offered memberships on the Coalition’s various Advisory Committees – and are invited to attend all of its public events.
